White Stripes Marriage License

To counter our spreading of fact with the copy of the marriage license, I'd like to spead a little unsubstantiated rumor. A coworker who knows the author of the Free Press piece relates this story: After publishing the piece in which the brother-sister cover is blown, reporter is confronted by Jack White while out in a bar one night. Apparently Mr. White is pissed about the article because he threatens to kick the reporter's ass.

I don't know what they're trying to accomplish with that... I was just talking to a friend last night who saw them at the Magic Stick a couple years ago before they started they brother-sister rumour, and pondering why they'd bother with that when they were so obviously previously married.Good score, sab. What's next, a hard-hitting photo series on stall graffiti left by Kid Rock?

Is the certificate authentic? Where is the divorce certificate? If this was nestling in a public records library, how come no-one has pulled it before? And if it is authentic whose to say Meg wasn't married to someone else. is it possible to prove Jack really is John Gillis?

i don't think anyone at glono is actually saying they're any less entertaining of a band for having a gimmick. in fact, i sort of dig the fact that they're propagating a farce. rock and roll is supposed to be scandalous and mythological to some degree. before we knew they were a married couple, we thought they were quaint and cute. even when we found out they were a divorced couple, by them decreeing that they're brother and sister leaves us with some mental echo that they are somehow in an incestuous union. even since we know that's not true, we can't turn away from that. and really, when it comes down to it they're just entertainers... when jack/john was in goober and the peas, did we really think he and the rest of the band was some backwaters brethren set forth to play some honky skronk from the hills. not really. though, the white stripes blurred that line and it was more believable. and so it's just a better gimmick.

the fake marriage is a good gimmick. the white stripes are a band to be liked for the cuteness. kinda like the spice girls.

I never really cared one way or another. To me it was about as interesting as whether or not someone uses their real name. The administrators of this site say it is, providing references, where to go physically to get it, a website at which to order it, as well as links to an established newspaper who broke the story. I used to hang out with a girl who befriended Jack and Meg at this local "bar" (The Magic Stick venue/billiards/bowling alley/pizzeria/bar). The certificate posted is probably a fake (who knows). But Jack's real name is John Gillis. They were never actual brother and sister. You know how sometimes you can just be so close to someone, and they're "like a sister/brother" to you? That's exactly what it was. The story I heard is that Jack didn't have much of a family and would always hang with Meg's family, making her somewhat a sisterly figure. Then they fell in love. They grew apart and are total opposites, although they have a strong bond with the band and don't want to break that up.

Quick question, if this is an authentic piece, the same person must have filled out both meg's and john's parts, beecause the writing is the same. the same person wrote it. so if it is true, there is a problem. unless unable to write out he divorce sheet on their own, it doesnt count. and to me, both meg and john seem to be able to play guiitar and ddrum fine, so they should be able to write their own names....
