Re: Mooney Suzuki Sign to Columbia

OK so I just watched that video and, OMG, nearly every move, strut, behind the back solo and in-the-crowd shenanigans was a flashback of the show that I saw. You're right: twelve years later, that video would give noobs with a passing interest in rock music a desire to check out the Mooney. The Matr...

Re: Mooney Suzuki Sign to Columbia

I happened to see the MTV2's 'Advance Warning' spring tour, featuring all of these bands and wrote a write up for a zine called "The Taylor County Review." It lasted for one issue. It could be found in bulk in men's rooms of Subway restaurants around Southern Iowa. Good times. I liked near...

Re: GloNo Recs That Still Get Heavy Rotation

Do you guys dig Father John Misty? He's my latest obsession. I'm still on the fence for complete adoration but understand the appeal and praise. There are some really good songs on the new one ("When You're Smiling" and "Ideal Husband"), some that I can't stand ("True Affec...

Re: GloNo Recs That Still Get Heavy Rotation

I still listen to Bennett era Wilco just felt the need to qualify this. It's the post YHF output that hasn't stood up on repeated listenings for me and I used to be a bit more tolerant of the band. I can't believe that Tweedy views his most recent work as anything comperable with that era of the ban...

Re: Do I need OU812 and F.U.C.K.?

Thing is, Diamond Dave has always been a crap shoot vocally on stage-even during the younger days. He's a ringleader, a hype man, the dude that's there with a light of your smoke and a tap for your keg. I've heard the pre-mix Tokyo Dome recordings and it's awful. While I have no interest in hearing ...

Re: GloNo Recs That Still Get Heavy Rotation

Nobody but nobody has been able to convince me that TV On The Radio is worth a shit. Ironically, many of the titles that people kept peeing their pants over around here are no longer in the rotation. I'm thinking of Wilco, New Pornographers, Sufjan, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and-ironically-LCD Soundsys...

Re: The Greatness of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends"

Ironically, Graceland is on our radar too. And I remember hearing my son mention in passing about the King's "throne." It's funny, and maybe a reflection of increased awareness, visits from the local police department community outreach programs or NBC's The More You Know campaign, but dru...

Re: The Greatness of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends"

Disney hijack accepted! Part of my issue was family related. We-including the kids (11 and 7)-would have enjoyed a much more laid-back schedule, but a certain member of our trip planned every fucking day to the gills with Disney shit. Even repeated attempts to take a day off and head to the beach we...

Re: The Greatness of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends"

will be going to Disneyworld in two weeks. Hopefully I don't hate it. How was it? I wished I would have caught this before you left so that I could advise you of the following: 1.) The Hall of Presidents is best viewed while baked 2.) I kept screaming "Where's all the coke, Tyler?!" immed...

Re: The Jinx on HBO

What threw me at the final episode was the running time. Great editing. The entire build-up to what was an otherwise fairly tepid confrontational last interview. I kept looking at the clock and thinking, "This is how they're going to leave it?!" Then, those final hot mic'd moments-wonderfu...
