The Strokes are an OK band. Entertaining. The White Stripes were a GREAT band. And 20 years from now it will be The White Stripes that people look back on as one of the few really great bands to come out of the aughts. You're probably right, the White Stripes will be the band that stands the test o...

The Strokes...like Gang of Four, except not that good. A bit of a pointless comparison... they're both great bands, no reason to choose one over the other. Of course, one was exciting and new while the other had long ago put it's best years behind them. The Strokes were putting on one hell of a roc...

White Stripes reunion

Looks like that's the best thing we can hope to come out of their just-announced break-up. So weird, I got an email from them that wouldn't load, so I went to their site, which also wouldn't load, and I stupidly thought they must be announcing a new album or something. Anyway, these guys single-hand...

I didn't make it to any of those places - just Portillo's and Mustard's Last Stand, I was stuck in the Evanston area. Coming back for Thanksgiving though, so I'll be heading in to the Weiner Circle and Superdawg then. BTW, try the chocolate cake at Portillo's, it was incredible.

I always liked the Kooks' version. Not terribly different from this one, but somehow this one is just awful.

Right, I was telling them I needed either a phono stage or an auxillary port that I could use a turntable and preamp with...and I got many blank stares. It was sad. I think my search is getting narrowed down to an Onkyo CS325 or (if I really want to splurge) a Denon D-M37. Both are pretty basic, bu...

I've always like the look and sound of those. But can you get out of there without dropping a grand? Yeah, looking over them, they are kinda pricey - although in the long run they're worth it. You CAN get the "Model Two", which is stereo, for $299, and add an external CD player and/or iPo...

I have grown to love my Tivoli Audio model satellite (which means it has Satellite Radio built in), and I would totally recommend a similar model as a bookshelf stereo. They have versions with CD players built-in, versions with iPod docks, and they all have aux-in ports. You can get a separate stero...

I just can't get enough of The Walkmen's You & Me. It's dark, but somehow simultaneously soothing. And I like that it doesn't lend itself to listening as just individual tracks, only partly because the songs' names and lyrics aren't obviously related - so I never actually know which song is which.
