Agreed on the MGMT - it's disgustingly good. I feel behind the curve, given how long it's been out.

SF Music Blog

Hey guys -

If anyone here is living in San Francisco and wants to track shows, etc. I've started a music blog for the bay area. I had searched around a bit and not found anything I liked, so I decided to do my own. Check it out, I think you'll like.

Re: Sunken Treasure

However, anyone seen it/heard the mp3's? Can anyone recommend...tyring to decide how quickly to spend the money on this one. I got it last night - the cinematography is great, and the format is nice - kind of "follows" the tour, with travel scenes in between each concert. It's not dissimilar to the...

i'll try to be as objective as possible here. the songs were surprisingly solid in a set dominated by great renditions of Appetite for Destruction material. . I would echo this sentiment. The new songs certainly weren't the highlight of the show, but then neither was Dizzy playing a solo piano vers...

Go See Guns And Roses

So last night, I went to the Warfield here in San Francisco to see the "new" Guns and Roses. Like probably everyone, I didn't know what to expect and was a little skeptical. There's the whole chinese democracy debacle, and the fact that the band has changed, etc. I'm not even what you would call a b...

Stick with what you have unless you have a 5.1 DVD-Audio system. That, and the DVD documentary, are what separates this new version from the one you already have. Just worth noting: you can hear the 5.1 mix on any 5.1 (dolby/dts) DVD player. You just need a 5.1 setup. I've actually been enjoying a ...

What's everyone's opinions here of Smile? I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. I really like it, but I prefer the fan-created version with all the original takes on it better. Having the voices of the original band really makes a big difference to me. The new version sounds too slick and st...

I have a Mascis solo release called Martin and Me. It's solo acoustic, and he covers "Boy With a Thorn in His Side." Pretty good stuff. My special lady friend, who isn't much of a Dinosaur Jr. fan, liked it pretty well. Yeah, this one is live, and mainly vintage Dino. Jr. stuff. Some really cool ve...

As a side note, has anybody heard the J. Mascis solo acoustic show from '93 recently released by Rhino? Bought it today: great stuff!

Wolf Parade - Why The Hype?

Okay, so I've listened to the album, saw them live last night, and I still don't get it: what's the draw of this band? It seems like rehash of things already done, but with less energy. Anyone?
