Almost Famous is a good movie, not the best. Sure it is a little bit cheesy in some parts but I think it captures a lot of the things about why and how people like myself have obsessed and romanticised about music. Maybe the film romanticises a lot of things that used to be, but it isn't supposed to...

JJ Cale has some laid back stuff and the album Laid Back by Gregg Allman is pretty good. Most of the Townes Van Zandt stuff is pretty laid back and so fucking good!

Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner (I think that's the guy in the photo up there) is one of the members of supergroup Golden Smog that should be releasing an album at some point this year. I have one of their earlier albums -- good stuff for alt-country types and Wilco completists. He's actually not a membe...

As does his work with Diamanda Galas. Post-Zeppelin, Robert Plant has also had an interesting, if inconsistent, career. His last solo album featured a really great band, first-class singing, and a lot of musical curiosity on display--his odd mix of Middle Eastern music and old-time R & B is rea...

Wilco--Being There: I never here anyone talk about this one and it's far and away my favorite by them. I don't think it's underrated. I keep hearing from other fans how this is the "real" Wilco and how they miss the good old days, that it's their best album and whatever. I guess it's underrated com...

I'm a huge fan and I'm Swedish as well. Fantastic band on record and even better in concert. I'd describe them as Rolling Stones-ish with lots of psychadelic sounds that is coloring their music. Sometimes it can be heard in their music that they've been listening a lot to the Who, so maybe it is Who...

Take it easy, they're not done. I hang out on the Jayhawks board and a lot of fans have been talking to Gary during the past shows and he's said that "the door is still open...." & "tell the board to calm down" and something about what he said didn't come out right in that article while the writ...

Jon Brion is awesome. There are some appearences with him on Morning Becomes Eclectic that are really cool. He does some of that "one-man orchestra" stuff where he first plays some drums and then puts that in a loop, and then the same thing with another instrument and so on Also, he's even playing o...

Re: Big Release in '05

This year seems destined to be a great year for music. After a pretty bland '04, we should be in store for a bounceback year. This is what I'm looking forward to, what about you? I agree, 2004 did seem a little more lacklustre than 2003. Hopefully 2005 turns it around. I too await with great anxiet...

Garth Hudson has always had and still has the best beard

Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes has had a cool beard at times every now and then
