I'm not fully hip to the whole straight edge thing and I'm not sure most people are, even those who post or talk about it. I remember a Mykel Board column in MaximunRockandRoll in which he described straight edge kids as too young to buy booze, too scared to try drugs and too ugly to get laid. (I'm...

Hamell on Trial-Songs for Parents Who Enjoy Drugs
I fear he's one of those guys who remain perennially under the radar. Or my appreciation for funny songs is way out of synch's with the American marketplace. Their loss.

Have you heard Robbie Fulks' tribute to their song craft, "Fountains of Wayne Hotline"? Pure genius. Track it down.

Re: Nerdcore For Life

Will there be a breakout nerdcore rapper in 2008? Is Weird Al the godfather of nerdcore? MC Paul Barman is LONG overdue to become a household name. As far as the mantle of "godfather", let's look back to 1986 and a little tune called "The Sounds of Science." Name checking Gallil...

Re: This is not a paid advertisement for SPIN

Sooo now I'm a stereotypical single girl Living and Loving in the big city (NYC specifically), and it's fantastic. Stereotypical in that you're like Marlo Thomas in "That Girl"? Or more like "Rhoda"? No, really, do you guys read SPIN? And if so, what do you think of it? Funny yo...

The interview is on their site; I think it's an MP3 of one on the radio, else I'da posted it, along with my shame. Honestly, they've been slipping, and I think even the band knows it. In THE BREAKUP, that Jennie Aniston/Vince Vaughn vehicle, they appeared in a concert scene. While I have no problem ...

I'll see your MTV taping, and raise you a rack of ribs: About a month ago, I caught the latest Chili's commercial, with it's catchy cow-punk outro and I thought "That's weird, that Chili's jingle sounds JUST LIKE the Old 97's!" Then, I stumble upon an interview with their lead guitarist wh...

Thanks, Jake. This made my weekend, and possibly my month. (I heard that Santa was planning on planting a copy of Orphans under the tree for me, and I've been wondering just how to get through the next 25 or so days. This ought to get me a good part of the way there.)

What'd he do?? I've never seen him solo, but I know from many Wilco shows that he sort of rolls his eyes and drawls somethings like "yeah, yeah, we'll get to the favorites..." Was it any different?
