Good idea, Miss Carol. Christgau was pompous and used a twisted syntax, but he was crystal clear compared to some of the other VV music writers, who seem to pack their sentences with more insider signifiers than one entire article should hold. All the Voice has been imploding for years under this ex...

in the fall of 2002 I had dropped out of school, after two beer-soaked years at Trent U in Peterborough, Ontario, Hey, I went to Trent too! I dropped out after three beer-soaked years. It's rare to meet an alum or even anyone who's heard of the place, in the States. I came to Glono because I knew D...

I read an excerpt of this book, about her going to do a morning radio interview and of course the dj had barely heard of her, seemingly hadn't listened to the new record and asked dumb questions. She, Jen, hadn't been able to have any coffee at the hotel so she was desperate for some from the radio ...

I didn't mean to imply anyone had been sentimental about paper. I was thinking of a friend of mine saying she liked the feeling of the actual New York Times in her fingers. I thought, I don't think I do. It's smudgy and hard to fold. But I far prefer to read it in paper, anyway. I agree with you too...

Agree completely about e-books and reading online. I don't enjoy it nearly as much. Don't think I retain it as well, either. I'm not sentimental about the feel of paper in my fingers but I do enjoy the silence -- no hum of electricity, just reading and listening to the words. What I meant was that w...

Thank you again, everybody, for your kind birthday wishes and your sweet avatars.

It's so nice of you guys to wish me luck on the novel. Jaime0 is right, print is dead. Also, I'm completely stuck on p. 84 and have been for months. But maybe a breakthrough is right around the corner. Um, yeah.

Spammerama, above.

"Well your sign says thank you very much for not smokin
My own sign says I'm sorry, I'm smokin
Don't treat me special, no don't kiss my ass
Just treat me the way you treat 'em up in first class"

Er -- I don't know if that one is quite "me" -- though sugarcubes forever has an Icelandic woman as his. But why do I feel uneasy about adopting this avatar? Is it something about 'postmodern appropriation' or something. I don't know, I just wish work would end so I could go drinking.

Thanks for everybody's good wishes. Derek, I know what you mean about your and Jake's story but that's what makes it such good dramatic material. That crazy midnight drive to Tucson. The "business trips" to Laos. Okay, a stock Brokeback Mtn. joke is coming up so I'll stop here. That's swee...
