You know, that's exactly what I was afraid of. I've heard about female rock bands in Saudi Arabia, but the revolution is in what they are doing (actions) rather than sonically. While it is bittersweet that there is no galvinizing cultural force to rail against, there is some comfort in the sense tha...

Where's the revolution?

In the 50's there was Rock 'N' Roll. In the 60's it got Psychedelic. In the 70's it morphed into Disco and Punk. In the 80's it further fragmented into alternative, hip hop, metal and many other genres. The 90's saw further fragmentation and Techno.

Where's the revolution now?

So many of these comments are indicative of what the real paucity is: revolution . In the 50's there came rock 'n' roll. In the 60's it morphed into psychedelic rock. Sadly, the 70's had disco, happily, punk. But, the 80's more than made up for it with an explosion of genres (many of which had their...

The New Year - The New Year (red cover) is excellent.
Wire's Pink Flag & Chairs Missing

African Pearls: Senegal

It starts off with some traditional stuff, but the last half can only be described as witch doctor rock and roll. It's total genius!

Yes, it was a bad show. And a dangerous stunt. It's the only time I've heard of them doing such shenanigans.

To see MBV, though. That might be worth $269!

$269! Holy god that's an expensive concert ticket.

I'm also starting on an Middle Eastern-ish run. Following my head and heart, it seems. Lovely dynamics and arrangements generally. Check out the compilation called the Silk Road (http://www.amazon.com/Silk-Road-Musical-Caravan/dp/B000063NDQ). While it includes a lot of far eastern stuff too, there'...

Rockstar, the movie with Mark Whalberg, flashed across my television for a few minutes (until neither I nor my wife could tolerate the heavy metal any longer) this evening. I think it has everything to do with formaldehyde in Aqua Net. Them cockroaches got preserved from in the inside out. Can't say...

Letting the sacred cow thread bleed over to this one, Morrissey sucks live. Saw him once years ago and he played for half an hour, then his band cranked their amps up to feedback levels and walked out. It took the sound guys 10 minutes to figure it out. Meanwhile, the whole audience freaks the fuck ...
