"London", calling...

Hey folks - I'm trying to put together a specific mix tape for a little project, and I'd like them to be songs that mention London somewhere in the lyrics.

So far I only have two "London Calling" (of course) and "Panic" by The Smiths.

Help a fella out, if you can!

This seems like it's going to be one of those divisive CDs. Super-hipsters might be obliged to hate it, because they were on Funeral from the get-go, don't you know (and I'm not trying to call you out, Tom4, or anyone else on here). I think it's fonking brillant, and I like it better each time I lis...

Most recently, it was Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers. This was one of those CDs of a band I've never listened to, but read so many glowing reviews I decided to give it a shot. I was in love :23 seconds into the damn thing when the chorus kicks in on "Twin Cinema", the first song. Whe...

Just had another one:

On The Drive by Trucker's "Decoration Day", near the end after the last verse...there's a short pause in the music after Patterson stops his lyric...then the drums have a couple of beats and the dual guitars (a la Skynard) rush in.

Goosebumps

I'm hoping to get a good collection of those "goosebump" moments in your favorite songs...not the songs themselves, but try and tell the specific parts that do it for you. The first two I think of are these: In Rilo Kiley's "Does He Love You?" , the climax of the song in the last...

If you're getting bored, feel free to skip ahead to about 3:30 when Prince begins his solo, and laugh in amusement to watch Tom Petty try to take back the song while His Purple Badness refuses to stop tearing apart his guitar for the next three minutes. Dani Harrison is cracking up in the backgroun...

Yeah, I have to confess a huge crush on Ms. Moore too.

Check out her versions of Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us In Two" and XTC's "Senses Working Overtime" from that Coverage album. Good stuff, IMO

Where's that confounded bridge?

So can any of you music theory geeks tell us the purpose of a bridge in a song? What's the use? Why's it needed? Is it falling by the wayside as a conventional song component? And on a similar note, what are some of the more memorable bridges in songs? Off the top of my head, that mid 90's song by S...

show me that you have the same chops that you did twenty years ago.

They did have a fine, fine song, "The Wicker Man" a few years back that had that classic Maiden sound.

I think it was on Bruce's first album back in the fold.
