I would suggest starting with "Ham on Rye" and then "Post Office". Of his poems, 'Sometimes You Get so Alone" or "Bang on the piano..." are pretty representative.

I love the "real" Star Wars movies (77-83) but they aren't "postmodern" by my public university education. I would certainly agree that "Blade Runner" is, and maybe David Lynch's "Dune". Sad thing is that the films made by Lucas got so awful, and when I watched the Kurosawa film "Hidden Fortress" it...

Alias, I like your new avatar. I own the second (self-titled) Sheryl Crow album and it used to get a lot of airplay. Not at much as Tom Petty or the Stones but it was a good CD. The Globe Sessions release had a couple of good tracks. I disliked the first smash-hit album and avoided her last one beca...

I saw the Church at 1st Ave in Minneapolis in April 2002 and it's one of the best shows I've been to EVER. They played an in-store at Let it Be (record shop downtown) and were excellent there as well. They have become even more polished and the lyrics are a lot better than in their "Heyday" to use a...

Spin got one thing right, in a big way -
The Fall "This Nations Saving Grace", a legit classic and the band's best overall album.

I hear Mark Hamill (yes, THAT Mark Hamill) has inside track to play the Joker, based on Nolan admiring his voice work on the Batman animated shows. My Superhero Movie Top 5 - 1. Unbreakable 2. Batman Begins 3. X-Men II 4. Superman II 5. Superman Generally I often find the Superhero sequels are bette...

As I recall it all started with Monica Seles, and I used to root against her because of it. Then I felt bad booing her after she got stabbed by that nutjob. Grunting is out of place on the courts or even the weight room IMO.

Every Radiohead CD after "The Bends" has left me progressively bored, bored bored. As far as OK Computer, it's undoubtedly influential. I just dislike it. I also think "The Chronic" by Dr Dre ruined hip-hop (cliche subject matter, weak rhymes, rappers as characters instead of stylists, hopping cars ...

Metallica, esp. Lars Ulrich, is an exceptionally ugly batch of guys. The fact that they are all (except the new guy) balding and paunchy does not help. Oh, and their music sucks too.
