1. My wife bought me a very nice briefcase for Christmas and when I unwrapped it my 18 month old daughter pointed at it very excitedly and said, "purse!" 2. Speaking of kilts, this was on my Google News home page yesterday: A US teenager was banned from a high school prom parade for wearing a kilt. ...

I'm all for people writing about how music affects them and their relationship with bands/albums/songs and I did enjoy the Meloy book - I just wish there had been a bit more about the album and the band. It kinda reminded me of Klosterman's Fargo Rock City, which starts out as a pretty insightful lo...

I received that 33 1/3 book - Meloy on Let it Be - for my birthday and read it one sitting whilst waiting for my daughter to fall asleep. I was hoping for a bit more insight on the album itself, it's pretty much Meloy's teenage memoirs. Don't know that I'd read any more in the series as I'm far more...

It has taken me a long time to recover from Ethan Hawke's treatment of the Violent Femmes in Reality Bites.

Ugh.

Define suburbia? I suppose it's Exurbia as the smartypants call it . The juniors in my office call it PMS, e.g. "The club was totally full of PMS on Friday night." - Pickering, Mississauga, Scarborough. My in-laws call it home. Mostly, I just don't want to add Go Transit to my list of excuses for mi...

Has anyone read the 33 1/3 series of books? The in-laws and my mum gave me gift certificates to Indigo for my recent b-day and my wife suggested Colin Meloy's take on Let it Be. In the spirit of this thread, I just finished Nick Hornby's Polysyllabic Spree and have just about wrapped Schott's Food a...

Sadly I passed on M. Ward at the El Mocambo last Sunday night. Had a tough time getting my daughter off to bed and had a very early client meeting on Monday...did manage to see Neko Case at the Phoenix a while back, but that was contingent on getting a babysitter. If I move to the suburbs I hope som...

This post is something I've been pondering for a while. Around Christmas, a review of Bryan Adams in Now Magazine stuck a similar chord: "Like Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams is one of those artists who are better in retrospect or hindsight. Like, really far behindsight. When Cuts Like A Knife and Reckless ca...

Have you considered a run to Buffalo? The 20 Gig iPod is $299 USD - about $365 Canadian. That's cheaper than the $429 they're going for around Toronto...and depending on your mood you can hit the Albright-Knox and/or the Anchor Bar before heading home.

Sam Stone - John Prine Vietnam - Jimmy Cliff Ballad of Penny Evans - Steve Goodman A Soldier's Things - Tom Waits I really think this should be a holiday up here in the Great White North (and elsewhere too I suppose). In 2001, I was fortunate enough to visit Vimy Ridge and Beaumont Hamel . Stunning ...
