Dylan was my first that came to mind, and I'd argue it to death on the strength of "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands", most of Blood on the Tracks , and scattered other gems. Sometimes though, a song just isn't a poem. I'd second Tweedy, for 40% of Summerteeth ("She's a Jar" and "Via Chicago" at the ve...

As do I! In fact, I'm currently working on popularizing the phrase "trolling for cougars" as a euphemism for picking up bar-hopping older ladies.

Not that I'm into that, I just think its a funny phrase.

And g5am, I understand your fanaticism for REM, but I think the vast majority of people would disagree with you, and I'm talking casual fans here, and the casual fan is sort of how you measure the kind of influence and popularity I think we're talking about. Certainly, their sales have dipped. You'...

I loved the Motorcycle Diaries, although I didn't read the book. A beautifully shot movie. Hopefully they put someone with a great eye behind the camera of On The Road; if nothing else it could stand as a beautiful snapshot of America whether they get the characters right or not.

Then again, "Indoor Fireworks" kills me every time. That is a great tune, except the first few times I heard it I couldn't stop thinking of the title as "Endor Fireworks" and subsequently, the end of Return of the Jedi, and subsequently, that awesome-ass song the Ewoks sing in the original version....

In the interest of fighting, I'd like to point out that the title is Can't You Hear Me Knocking, as in "Bitch, what the fuck - you deaf!?!" The 't adds the crucial Rolling Stones 'tude. And I agree, great song but the fucking jam with the sax is like the memory of passing a kidney stone during great...

But I think When I Was Cruel is easily one of the best albums Elvis C. has put out, in the top three, even. To me, it's definitely better than some of the really well-respected ones, like King of America . I'm with you on When I Was Cruel - one of my favorite EC records, and a really fresh sound fo...
