I would have to go with the Metro and Schuba's here in chicago.

Metro is the best place for show period. But with the way the booking at Schuba's has been lately, they are definitely nipping at Metro's heels.

Why does everyone but me love the Metro?!?!

The men's bathroom is impossibly far away and it's damn tough to see the stage from any angle.

Have they been booking some good stuff at Schuba's lately, Charli?

Yes, Ryan, In fact, Riviera is playing there tomorrow night (April 30) with Pedal Steel Transmission. What could be better?

Sounds like a good show. I heard Riviera are using lots of theremins now. Real spacey.

I agree with you about Metro, Prop, even tho' it is rock Mecca.

And would somebody PLEASE tell the drunken frat boys and the high-pitched, loud, obnoxious, squeaky-voiced chicks at Schuba's and the Abbey Pub to SHUT THE PHUCK UP! I'm there to hear music, not a bunch of poseurs.

I'm getting more and more impressed with some of the bookings at the Abbey too, but the Empty Bottle gets the biggest share of the coolest bands I think.

Yeah, Beat Kitchen and Hideout are both cool places, but aren't they a little too small to accommodate the bands' fans?

Madness you're right about the Abbey.

I have seen a few great shows there lately: SFA(fabulous),Beulah, and New Pornographers. And now Jeff Tweedy is playing there in June. Though sold out, darn.

But it is becoming a great place to see a show and the sound is pretty damn good.

About the noisy idiots; saw kevin tihista at Schuba's recently and the whole crowd was chit chatting through his whole set. He kept stopping and starting then finally beacame annoyed.Though drunkenness was his excuse he angrily smashed his favorite guitar into pieces onstage.hmm.

How was Kevin Tihista live (despite the idiots)?

Madness - I do agree the Metro gets a lot of great shows and has a rock&roll aura! Too bad they can't zap that inner wall out. In a sold out show, I always get stuck watching through one of the doorways or on my tiptoes in the upper level.

I do see a lot of good stuff going through the Empty Bottle. What's it like in there, I've never been to it?

Drunk.heh

But pretty damn good. I had seen him a couple days before that open for Ed Harcourt and the sound was pretty bad. This show he sounded much better.

He has one new song he plays that isn't going to be on his new album and that sucks because it's probably one of his best.
