Along with the aforementioned Andrew Bird, I found this for TWENTY FOUR DOLLARS yesterday. I am in a heavy Bruce Springsteen phase right now, and I am also in a heavy buy-myself-copious-amounts-of-stuff phase. I just listened to The Rising for the first time on the bus this morning. And goddamn. God. Damn.
That is all.

I went through a Bruce phase not long ago. I really need to get more of his stuff. How is that boxset?

Just picked this one up. I will admit to being taken aback during the first half of the cd, ejecting it, and then finally listening to the whole thing. I'm glad I made it through because the second half is just awesome. "When I Go Deaf," a song that Pitchfork panned, is one of the best songs in Low's catalog.
I went into this one with high-hopes for the production. While Fridmann's mark is noticeable, it doesn't rank as one of his best and it doesn't add that much to the original sound. I wanted the thing to break dimensions, but it merely sounds like it broke budgets.
That being said, their material has really started to flourish and this is probably the best batch of songs they've compiled.

You got it!
So what's the deal with The Soviettes? I've heard a new track from them (liked it) and a nice Midwestern buzz is starting to happen. What's the scoop, L'il Apple Dude?

They absolutely rule. Both "LP" and "LP II" are great. I just discovered them last year, and I can't wait until the next time they come down to Chicago.

I really love how everyone in the band contributes vocals. It makes for some good pop-punk that doesn't get repetitive.

Hey! Thought that wasn't out for a few weeks yet. I love M. Ward and am eagerly anticipating said Transistor Radio.

On an Andrew Bird note, just ordered MPOE. NBG's "mouths agape" comment makes me want it to come even faster!

I'm always in a Bruce phase. That boxset rules. Some of the songs really improved live, though... (i.e., you might look for a good bootleg)

That is a deceptively catchy tune, idn't it? One listen and it's stuck in my head for days.

Actually, these days I've been spinning New Pornographer's Mass Romantic pretty heavily. Glad I finally picked it up - I got Electric Version first and wore it out. I was actually reluctant to grab Mass Romantic for fear it would be something completely different, but it's as good or better than EV.
