what with all the talk of "guero" and "one foot in the grave" lately, i'm reminded what a really friggin' great album "stereopathetic soul manure" is...

(while i was lookin up whether "soul manure" was one word or two, i came across this review on allmusic.com
...his sense of songcraft is inaudible. Essentially, the record was both a palate cleanser, one designed to scare away the "Loser" fans, and a bid for indie credibility, since the music on Stereopathetic is equally as uncompromising and as unlistenable as Sonic Youth or their many imitators at their most extreme.
-Stephen Thomas Erlewine

unlistenable? sure there's some harsh/odd bits, especially some of the live/field recording stuff, but i'll throw "rowboat", "crystal clear (beer)", and "puttin' it down" up against near any beck tune...

Vey good choices everyone-especially liked seeing Foreigner on the list. (Elvis Costello, too.)
CatPower's You Are Free is underrated.
And I love Kid A.
And Broken Social Scene's FeelGood Lost and You Forgot It In People.
Midnite Vultures kicks my ass every time I hear it.
Hooverphonic's The Magnificent Tree.
Portishead's Dummy.
Joni Mitchell's Miles of Aisles.
Bjork's Verspertine.
Pink Floyd's The Piper At the Gates of Dawn.
John Lennon's Walls and Bridges.
And Everything by John Prine.
