Here's what I just happen to have at work today. It's not particularly representative of what I've beem listening to lately (a LOT of Califone's "Roomsound") but it's a list:
Foo Fighters--Foo Fighters
New Order--Substance
Nirvana--From the Muddy Banks of Wishkah
ODB--Nigga Please
Beastie Boys--Hello Nasty
Oasis--Backbeat Vol. 2
Duran Duran--Decade (Huh? I know...)

I haven't heard the Hives. I'm very curious, though.

Here's what I've been listening to over the last few days:

Flying Burrito Brothers--Gilded Palace of Sin
Aerosmith--Get Your Wings
Gang of Four--Entertainment!
Stevie Wonder--I Was Made to Love Her and Music of My Mind
Adam and the Ants--Dirk Wears White Sox
Afrika Bambaataa--Looking for the Perfect Beat 1980-1985
And, for the holidays, Joyeaux Mutato by Mark Mothersbaugh. (Phil, if you liked the Rushmore soundtrack, you'll probably like this.)

Motherbaugh did the instrumentals on Rushmore, right? I do like that. It's odd. I can't really put my finger on what exactly it is about those tracks that I like so much. There's such a strange mix of genres in those pieces.

Yup. Mothersbaugh did the instrumentals for Rushmore. And Bottle Rocket and, I'm assuming, the upcoming Anderson opus, The Royal Tennenbaums.

I think his instrumentals are great and it's interesting to hear how he's matured. He started by releasing E-Z listening covers of Devo songs (released as Devo when they were at the height of their popularity) which are entertaining but not necessarily superb and, unfortunately, at least a couple of the Revenge of the Nerds soundtracks!

Sorry for getting off topic--just can't help myself when it comes to anything remotely Devolved!

Holy shit - has anyone picked up the new Cornelius album ("Point") yet? Damn, is it good. I don't know that it's as universally cool as "Fantasma," but it's very fine, anyway. It's much more musical than previous efforts, including an interesting take on the classic "Brazil" and a number called "Another View Point" that stomps monster ass.

It's been at the top of my playlist for a few weeks now.

I know - it's not exactly on topic, but it's my topic to sidetrack, right? <IMG SRC="/bb/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Whoa - I didn't know he had a new one out! Corny kicks all the major name brands of ass, plus several lesser known off-brands as well! I'll be snagging that one soon.

I just listened to those Riviera downloads....good stuff!! Looking forward to the show Saturday.

Lately, I can't get enough of Everynight Fireworks, by Hey Mercedes. I hope that Mark Dawursk's leaving the band doesn't have any effect on that cool guitar sound when they play here next month. I also bought The Hives import Your New Favourite Band about a month ago and I love their raw sound quite a lot.

Just saw a Hives video on MTV2 last night. Funny but they sound a lot like the Sonics. A Garage band copping the Sonics? Go figure...

Just the same, I loved it.
