The above is from yesterdays NY POST.
I have a real problem with this movie.
I was in a heated discussion about it last year on the McCartney website forums. I just think its tasteless, but more specifically, its giving Mark David Chapman EXACTLY what he wants.
More infamy.
Making this movie means that if you kill a celebrity, you are going to become famous and have movies made about you.
Sickening.
And the fact that they are filming in front of the Dakota is just.....
ARGHHHH!!!

Russ, my favorite thing about your angry posts is imagining that Laura Ingalls is saying it.

more importantly, to me, is WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT MARK DAVID CHAPMAN? certainly not me. He was fucked up. It was tragic. but the only remotely interesting thing about him was that he was obsessed with and shot a guy who was a musical genius and social revolutionary. I will definitely not be seeing this movie. Hollywood has run out of ideas.

That's awesome, Russ. The Little House stuff, not the Chapman stuff.

I have two problems with it:

1. Same as Russ--why award an attention starved psycho a movie?

2. What is it with Hollywood "uglying" up beautiful people? Like there aren't "plain" enough actors out there? Hey, we need a plain Jane--let's put some glasses on Julia Roberts! I guess they have to sell tickets, but--yuck.

And Lindsey Lohan's in it? bleh

I'm just embarrassed that I knew the names.

I'm more of an Albert man, what with my Percodan addiction and all.

Sadly, somedays I feel like Jonathan from "Who's the boss?"

Here's the thing: Lennon was killed 25 years ago. He was a historical figure. Like it or not, the man who killed him is a historical figure too. It doesn't put Chapman on the same level as Lennon, but the fact is that his name is now in the history books. People (myself included) are interested in the story. What would drive an admitted life-long Beatles fan to kill the leader of that band? The connection to Catcher in the Rye, a book with its own sordid history, is another intriguing factor. Just because Chapman is a reviled character does not make his story off limits. If we're at all interested in human nature and how mental illness can drive a person to commit incredible violence, this is a fascinating story.

Talking about NOT talking about Mark David Chapman is silly. It's like talking about the Holocaust and not mentioning Hitler.
