Apple sets tune for pricing of song downloads

Apple Computer on Monday revealed it had renewed contracts with the four largest record companies to sell songs through its iTunes digital store at 99 cents each. The agreements came after months of bargaining, and were a defeat for music companies that had been pushing for a variable pricing model.

Once again, the music companies have no clue and must be dragged kicking and screaming into modern commerce.

Apple showed them how viable and profitable digital sales could be and they want even more now. Jobs doesn't owe them a damned thing; in fact, they owe him for folks like me who buy off of itunes now rather than illegally download.
