I agree that ICHTHBAO is their best. I would actually place And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out next on my list. Like Batchy said, this was my introduction to them as well, and the melancholy can be overwhelming. It kinda turned me off at first, but the second listen is much better. It's still a very good CD, as is Painless.

a little late to this, but i'll fall in line with the majority. ICHTHBAO is my favorite. though, i find myself really enjoying the "little honda ep". with covers of songs by the beach boys, the kinks, gram parsons and queen it does right by me every time.

this is actually a better compilation that the prisoners of love one. i'd start here...a quasi best-of with some rare stuff, some covers, etc.

also there's a great acoustic disc recently reelased called smattering of outtakes that is quite good.

if you want an actual album, listen to the others and go with i can hear...or electro

That's the only Yo La Tengo record I own thus far, but based on it, I plan to buy more. Good call, Maarten, and long time no see, sir.

wouldn't the 3 dsic remastered compilation be better than the non-remasterd 2 disc? considering you can pay just a little more and get a 3rd disc?

I'm with Batchy and I truly love "And then nothing turned intself inside out. Let's save Tony Orlando's house is just about my favorite song. Plus, Georgia's a way better singer than Ira.

I was kind of surprised by this record because my previous knowledge of YLT was only the video for Upside-Down from "May I Sing With Me."

I have yet to discover a bad YLT album. They've got a lesser song here and there, but for the most part, it's all good.
