The GloNo Cover Band

Postby worpswede » Thu Jan 11, 2007 8:10 pm

Holy shit! GloNo Artist Management Group, Inc. just booked a date at a fairly nice bar for your cover band next month! You've got a few weeks to rehearse with the cats 'n kittens to get your act in gear.
First things first: you've got to come up with a setlist!
The rule is simple:
10 cover songs minimum for your set.
1 encore song at the end to satisfy your adoring crowd.
Think carefully about the ebb 'n flow of yer set; you don't want to start of with that slow number first would ya?
It's your band.
You're the leader.
You decide.
Put the band you're covering in parentheses to help us figure out who you're covering.

Nice thread, one that took much deliberation (and I did it without my iPod as reference -- doubly difficult). It's not a collection of favorites (although I love all 11 tracks), but a set that would be nice to listen to (and cohesive).

1 - "Back on the Chain Gang" (The Pretenders)
2 - "Man Out of Time" (Elvis Costello)
3 - "Black Star" (Radiohead)
4 - "The Engine Driver" (The Decemberists)
5 - "At My Most Beautiful" (R.E.M)
6 - "For Me This Is Heaven" (Jimmy Eat World)
7 - "Mine's Not a High Horse" (The Shins)
8 - "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" (Stars)
9 - "High" (The Cure)
10 - "Don't Save Us From the Flames" (M83)

Encore - "Last Goodbye" (Jeff Buckley)

I hope I put enough thought into this. The key to any successful cover set is to choose songs that are not stuff people have heard a million times before (Really, do we need another cover band doing "Brown Eyed Girl" or "Creep"?), but to pick songs that are well-known enough for your adoring (and hopefully inebriated) fans to sing along to when necessary.

I give you: The Mr. S Experience!

The Cult- "She Sells Sanctuary"
The Cars- "Just What I Needed"
The Pixies- "Velouria"
Mission of Burma- "Academy Fight Song"
Devo- "Gates of Steel"
Jesus and Mary Chain- "Head On"
Radiohead- "Lucky"
The Smiths- "Panic"
Rolling Stones- "She Comes in Colors"
David Bowie- "Heroes"
Faces- "Oo la la"

Encore: The Clash- "Lost in the Supermarket"

Thank you, good night!
