Best furious political punk songs

Postby Mixmaster Shecky » Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:49 am

They must be punk, and they must be furious. Bonus points if they still piss off the religious right. I'll start it off with some obvious ones:

'Suspect Device' - Stiff Little Fingers

'Anarchy In The UK' - Sex Pistols

'Repeater' - Fugazi

'Rise Above' - Black Flag

"Holiday in Cambodia" - Dead Kennedys - bonus points for pissing off the religious right as well as do-gooder/do-nothing liberals. Pol Pot!

Bad Religion "Struck A Nerve"
The song itself is about anger but it's not manufactured.
"There's an old man on a city bus eating a candy cane--and it isn't even Christmas." Anybody can get riled up by the thought of bombs being dropped on kids. But most Americans have not actually experienced that kind of horror. That's why you gotta respect guys who saw that shit first hand in Vietnam, The Gulf and Iraq and came back... no matter how senseless it all is.
However all Americans have seen these poor disenfranchised bastards stumbling around or riding the bus. (Hello Wesley Willis!)
It's a disturbing part of America we have all witnessed.
And the song dioesn't make stereotypical bleeding heart excuses for the characters either---"And she spends her last dollar on a bottle of vodka for tonight." Not stale outdated twinkies for her kid--vodka.

I've gone to bat before for the underrated "White Light White Trash White Heat" by Social Distortion. Chock full of angry songs that will leave you looking to participate in a road rage incident.
My friends wife left him and he's quite angry. I threw this Cd in at his house yesterday. It was too real. He took it out and put cartoon anger in--White Zombie. It was time to go.

Refused: Just about all of Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent, and the first track off Shape of Punk to Come. I've got a bone to pick with capitalism....and a few to break!

"'Merican" by the Descendents. Not a band I'd ever looked to for politix, but this one, on their latest, spits bile beautifully. An articulate indictment of the whole rotten mess we've become as a country.
