The Queen Is Dead; Koko Taylor has died at home from complications from surgery.
I actually got to meet her at Alligator Records when I interned there; she was the nicest blues grandma you could ever meet. We had a quick conversation, and she graciously answered my questions. I have since then been a fan of hers; I think that two of her albums, I Got What It Takes and Live from Chicago: An Audience With The Queen are really great albums, and withstand the sometime ghettoization of blues music as a perceived quaint genre; these two albums SMOKE!!
God rest you, Koko; thanks for making this world a bluesier place.
This is the place where you can vent whatever's on your mind. Feel free to go off on extended rants or brief blurbs about whatever's rocking your world.
