Copying my comment from the Josh link:
I bought this the day it came out, but because Dallas record stores sucked in 1980 I drove all the way downtown to Metamorphosis to buy it...but it was worth the trip. For a long time this was a Top 5 album for me...listening to it again recently (I finally bought the CD and ditched the vinyl) I have to admit I was surprised by how tame it was. It took a while of recalling what radio music was like back then (Bob Seger! The Cars! Freebird!) to help me remember how astonishing this was.
This album has a lot of personal connotations for me, but on relistening I don't find it gripping the way I once did.
