You guys hear about this? Fab: v. 1: The "Beatles" Biography? Volume 1 will be 800 pages and only covers up to 1963! Holy shit.

Apparently volumes 2 and 3 will be released in 2015 and 2019...

So what do you think the current best book is on The Beatles? I've only ever read a couple biographies on John Lennon, but the Anthology DVDs were really interesting.

The Beatles: The Biography by Bob Spitz is pretty authoritative. 992 pages, eight years of research/writing. It's solid.

The first Beatles book I ever read was Philip Norman's Shout!: The Beatles in Their Generation. Haven't read it since high school but I remember lots of great stories.

The second Beatles book I read was Peter Brown's rather sensationalistic The Love You Make: An Insider's Story of the Beatles. That one has lots of gossipy, tantalizing stuff (Brian giving John a handy -- or more! -- in Spain, etc.).

I asked Little Brown for an update via Twitter, here's their reply:

@gloriousnoise Hi there. We're publishing The Beatles: The Biography by Mark Lewisohn next autumn in the UK.

So...fall.

Hmm. Fall UK? That might mean spring in North America depending on rights sales. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
