John Hughes' very short fiction

Postby Joshua » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:32 pm

I know I don't poke my head in here much, but I just saw this and know that many of you will appreciate it...

It has apparently been discovered posthumously that John Hughes wrote a bunch of short stories - VERY short stories, like as little as a couple paragraphs or a few sentences - that Vanity Fair was allowed to publish a few of. They're awesome.

"Why me? Why do I have to be the canary in the coal mine of social collapse?" - Amen, John. A-fucking-men.

I actually laughed out loud a couple of times while reading "The Things That Bother Jeanne Marie on Friday, January 16, 2006, 4:04 p.m."

The Whole Foods cereal aisle! That's awesome.

And her conversation with herself about the Beatles at the end is great too.

Form the main VF piece: "John III is a musician and producer who owns an independent record label in Chicago."

Wait, what?

And his son "James, who until recently was based in New York, is a writer and the managing editor of an independent cultural magazine called Stop Smiling."

Hughes produced a couple of pretty cool kids!

What's not mentioned is their names are actually Ducky and Blaine.

His name is Blaine? That's a major appliance, that's not a name!
