Nice article about this weekend's Violent Apathy reunion shows.

From the article:

“Thurston (Moore, of Sonic Youth) is a huge fan,” and may have borrowed a VA lyric for Sonic Youth, Rettman said. Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), in a book on Nirvana, “Come As You Are,” remembered seeing VA in Chicago, 1983.

Jason Fortier of King Tammy and Fortune & Maltese fame is filling in on bass. I am taking credit for instigating this perfect pairing.

Saturday night you can see them along with reunited hardcore pioneers Negative Approach at St Andrews Hall in Detroit, (but keep in mind that Thurston Moore did RSVP for the Kalamazoo show via Facebook...)

Badass. I love this:

Bowser pointed out that they were poor and angry throughout the band’s run. “It was a lot of us-against-them attitude... against all music, or all culture, even,” he said. “Now it’s just, let’s have fun and see what happens.”

“Originally, we thought we were going to change the world,” Knott said, “but it just didn’t happen that way.” The goal for him was to create a music scene in Kalamazoo, something like what he’s loving now in Austin, he said.

Society still seems “lethargic,” Knott said. He hopes that VA’s story of a scene created by non-apathetic individuals “energizes someone to go out and do something on their own.”
