When I was a kid I assumed he was really important, because the show was called "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert". Then I saw Paul Shaffer's imitation of him and was less sure.

Pretty sure I got my first taste of KISS and Aerosmith on the rock concert, not to mention Blondie. He was the best thing that ever happened to Paul Schaffer.

He was a second-tier rock 'n roll impresario, but he definitely gave us that TV show, the Archies group, and Kansas. Thanks, Don (no sarcasm meant); say hi to George Goldner for us.

Nah, Paul's shining moment in my eyes is still his music directorial duties for the Blues Brothers. For a pencil-neck geek, Shaffer really has some great chops; he can't be denied that.

Kirshner is responsible for the first two Monkees albums, and took everything in my power not to post "Don Kirshner Beats Mike Nesmith to Death" (for those of you who know the story of Nez putting his fist through Kirshner's wall during an argument of the band's creative control).
