No, Gary Jules was never in Tears for Fears. Tears for Fears was the duo of Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith. Plus whichever musicians they felt like playing with at the time.
However, Roland (who wrote the song) did give the song his blessing, and said it's a great rendition.
The video for the original TFF version has Roland doing some hilarious dancing, though. Really a good giggle.
Gary Jules' album, Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets, is really good, by the way. I like to describe it as a cross between Nick Drake & Jack Johnson.

thanks for the info on an amazing song. Nick Drake crossed with Jack Johnson? sounds intriguing, because i can't imagine that at all.

I thought of another one: Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt." it's fantastic!

no pun intended, but i get chills whenever i hear the Chills' "pink frost". opening with a sun-and-surf guitar melody, the song shifts its focus onto the mind of a man panicking over what to do with his dying girlfriend's body.

I have to agree with you on that one. I can't even listen to the NIN version anymore.

It's the only way I can think of to describe him, except to add that he's sort of an L.A. troubadour. Living in (or at least close to) L.A., I kinda like that.

Jeff Buckley

This song at once saves your life and dashes it to pieces. Its truth is undeniable. I had the rare priviledge of catching Jeff Buckley live at The Backdoor in San Diego. He was one of the most amazing talents to walk the Earth.

And Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah . . .

Per my comment on another thread, add fIREHOSE's "Candle and the Flame" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Cotton."
