Associated Press headline this morning: "Pipe-Bomb Suspect Played Punk Rock." Oh man. What is this gonna do for punk rock?

I hope that they find out that he listened to Blink-182 while preparing the bombs. Those young lads are dangerous, who knows what kind of riotous behaviour they'll incite next.

We need to stop them!

Download Apathy's songs from mp3.com:

Also, check out the MetaFilter discussion with lots of his band links, etc.:

By the way, if the mp3.com songs get taken down, I've got them backed up. Haven't listened to them yet...

I'm not sure I wanna hear that vicious S.O.B.'s music.

But why the hell is it important, at all, that this guy played punk rock? Does a headline like that sell newspapers? Do a bunch of squares get a woody thinking that his involvement with punk rock music is somehow intertwined with KILLING PEOPLE... that punk rock is to blame... that PUNKS are KILLERS?!?

Consider some other famous murdering musicians:

Merle Haggard
R.L. Burnside
Sid Vicious

Any others?

Should we not listen to their music because of their awful past/ending?

Haggard and Burnside both killed men before they made it as musicians. Sid killed Nancy (no conspiracy theories accepted here) after. Does either situation make their music less desireable?

Absolutely. If you murder another human being in cold blood then you have no right to be an admired artist. People should avoid the music out of respect for their victims. I sure as hell wouldn't support the art of anyone who killed another human being, unless it was self defense.

I respect Leadbelly. What other cool musicians have been convicted of murder?
