Mess Hall's Metalfest exists to celebrate the great speed, thrash, and death metal of the 1980s and to give fans of real metal an alternative to the Metallica concerts happening on the same dates at the Allstate Arena.
Mess Hall will be converted into Rogers Park's center for the appreciation of Speed/Thrash/Death Metal of the 1980s. For this two-day event, Mess Hall will be transformed into a site of ungodly metal mayhem. You will not be disappointed by the scale and heaviness of the visuals we've concocted.
We'll have a stereo on hand for the DJing of Metal. Bring records or CDs you wanna play, or you can kick back, open a beer, and bang your head to the many killer albums we'll have on hand.
We'll also have back issues of Metal Mania and other mags and a VCR and DVD player with which we will project metal videos of yore. We've got live Venom, Slayer, Exodus, and Metallica (CLIFF BURTON YEARS ONLY) and other shit. If you have more metal videos, definitely bring them. We'll screen whatever you've got (as long as it's heavy, obviously).
Anyone attempting to bring False Metal into Mess Hall may be asked to leave. Attendees may be asked to help define what is or is not False Metal.
This event is free and open to the public. Stop in anytime Friday night or Saturday afternoon or evening.
