I really dig Tori Amos up through To Venus and Back. That was a really underrated album actually, the second disc had some great live material, including a version of "Sugar" that still gives me chills. She went a little off the deep end after that album though. ETA: I saw her live in '98 during the Choirgirl tour, and she puts on a hell of a show too.

She's kind of fallen off my radar lately, but I still like her music. That song "Cooling" off the "Spark" single is one of the best songs ever.

I can't believe there's a thread on Tori Anus in here.

Her first album was a novelty. Every one since has been like the sound of running fingernails across a blackboard.

I Saw her repeatedly in concert through the 90s. Every show was progressively worse than the one before. It came to the point where I couldnt' remember anymore why I bothered to fork over cash for her music to begin with.

That's a bad sign. When a fan can't even look back on the tunes that got them hooked. I did that with Howard Jones, Cindy Lauper and Thompson Twins in the 80s. After Tori Anus, I won't make that mistake again.

I wish her and Jewel nothing but a retirement in utter obscurity. Maybe they can both live on Jewel's stupid "ranch" in Alaska.

Not to make things messy, but I am wondering...
If you thought her first album was a novelty, and every one since was like fingernails on a blackbaord, why did you repeatedly see her in concert through the 90s?
I mean, if you didnt like her why go?

Good point. I mean, sooner or later, even the whole writhing around on the piano bench schtick gets old if you don't like her music.

Temporary stupidity, I guess.

There are a few bands that I simply can't explain my original attraction for. It's like quiting smoking. You start because it seems cool. You bum smokes off friends. A lot of hot chix smoke too, and it's a good conversatino maker. Eventually you're an addict. It stinks and it makes you sick, but you keep doing it. Once you're able to quit and look back on it, it becomes hard to figure out why you put your body through it to begin with. Yuck!

That and the fact that my Ex liked her and a third of my CDs were purchased with her bad taste in mind.

I have been playing THE BEEKEEPER most of the day (theres ALOT of tracks..19!) and so far it has its nice moments. Its defintely listenable, & sounds like Tori of old. No writhing, no rape songs, no *faerie* songs either....so far so good.

yeah she has really toned herself down, which is a good thing. a toned down mellow tori is a lot better than an angry depressed tori. i can't deal with angry depressed tori right now. that tori just drags me down as well.

Then there's always Y-Kant-Tori-Read Tori to get you going. Or at least get you nauseated.
