yeah, their live show is rad. i appreciate a band that can put solos into indie rock. who's opening for them?

i think their name was 'black', but i'm not sure. they were also from austin and they were good at what they did, but nothing spectacular..
but man, trail of dead blew me away. 2 drummers!??! hey until last night i didn't even know they had 2 different singers

I think I may be in love with the new Iron & Wine EP, Woman King. You can't really go wrong with Iron & Wine, and he's branching out a bit in terms of sonic palette. Cool percussion effects and great guitar playing (even some electric) shotgun-wed to his literary, southern gothic religion plays, this time all involving women. Beautiful music and artwork, as usual.

I can't stop listening to this either. "We were born to fuck each other / one way or the other" is one of the coolest lines I've heard in a while. All of yall who like Ugly Casanova should look into this ep; it has that vibe and was recorded in Chicago with producer Brian Deck.

I have recently had a spate, or queue, or club, or group, or (...) of tiny indie rock boys who have given me mix CDs. As a result, I have bought the following over the past two weeks, and one of them (CD, not boy) made me late for work this morning. These CDs can be cross-sectioned under I Cannot Believe That I Made It This Far In My Daily Existence Without You, Band:
Xiu Xiu--Fabulous Muscles
Broken Social Scene--You Forgot It In People ("I'm Still Your Fag"=the most heartbreaking song ever resplendent with funny lines that are made all the more heartbreaking because of the context)
and I already mentioned Deerhoof--Apple O, but that was bought because of a tiny indie rock boy, so it gets mentioned again.

shameless,
nbg.

It's not new at all but it's new to me. On a whim, I picked up the only cd available by The Vaselines (The Way of the Vaselines).

Anybody listen to them? I'm totally hooked. Just great lo-fi pop. A little on the twee side, I suppose. I remember Kurt Cobain always used to pimp them. Not sure why I didn't listen until now...

Much back catalog purchasing round these parts. Currently grooving to:

Jeff Beck Group - Truth and Beck-ola
The Faces - Five Guys Walk Into a Bar... (friggin' brilliant. everyone who likes bluesy, drinky rock music should listen up!)
AC/DC - Powerage (currently my most-listened to AC/DC album)
The Mr. T Experience - Revenge Is Sweet, And So Are You (Valentine's Day hangover album)

Really need to get my hands on some And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. I don't have a note of it in my collection. How wrong is that?

That is one of the wrong-est things I have heard all week.
This may be an unpopular opinion amidst you kids (I know it would be if Pitchfork had forums) but I would start with Madonna rather than jump right in to Source Tags And Codes. I expect, and I am sure we all expect, you to update accordingly your quest's progress.
