Hey, is anyone even making a fuss around Rollins anymore? I don't think so. I can't remember the last time I heard somebody say something nice about Mr. Rollins' work.

That's the kinda shit I'm talking about when I say "prancing". And I'm just not buying the crap he gives about taking money from the Man just so he can pour it back into 2.13.61 Productions and foster some more indie art. He's still making a chimp of himself.

Although I guess to some extent, the joke's on us-- he's gotten to meet Bobby DeNiro, and we haven't.

I find that the first two Big Star records have some songs that I don't like on them. However, the high points are just amazing. I can listen to Sister Lovers every day and never get tired of it.
I love Black Flag. The earlier stuff (First Four Years, Damaged, Everything Went Black) is really their best. Later on, the albums are more hit and miss and I understand but don't really like the metal direction that they took (songs like Slip It In just make me cringe). I've always liked the live records that they put out because they take the better songs from that era and the band just rips through them.
Minor Threat is, for my money, the best hardcore band ever. Great songs and an absolutely blistering sound. Ian is a humorless guy and the straight edge preachy angle is a turnoff. In spite of that, I still listen to Complete Discography on a regular basis and love every minute of it.

This is exactly how I used to describe Rollins' work back in the mid-90s. I never understood the idolation he got back then. I'm glad it's worn off as he's a big bore.

I am not blown away by Big Star either. Weird. On paper, I should be. Of course, I haven't given them a proper listen so maybe this is all hot air.

Oh, and let me add Springsteen to my list. Predictably, I love Nebraska but the rest of that shit I can do without. I want Little Steven to stay on the Sopranos in a wig and not dance around in tight pants singing on the same mic with two other dolts.

I love how Henry Rollins said "If you pick up a guitar and you can't measure up to Jimi Hendrix, you shouldn't even think about it." Well, I suppose that is how any non-musician might think about something! That guy has got a lot of mileage out of having talented backing bands. Seriously, people gripe about how rappers are non-musicians though they at least have an ear for rhythm, pitch, and wordplay. So where does that leave Rollins?

Unbelievably full of shit, I think, is the answer.

No, I don't really get Bruce either. Sometimes I get the sense that I would have be from New Jersey to really be down with Bruce.

Speaking of neverending rock and roll, how about Pearl Jam. Seriously, how can a band play a different setlist every night and make it sound like the SAME set list. That bootleg series they did? Why would you want 38 copies of the same CD? They peaked with 'State of Love and Trust' in that club scene in Singles. Slow train to nowhere after that.

I never really got much into the whole grunge thing (I went all jazz about that time for about five years), but even still I particularly didn't like Pearl Jam. Every song of theirs I've ever heard sounds exactly the same. Boo, Pearl Jam!

ok, i haven't seen this one mentioned yet... beck. his music just doesnt do a damn thing for me except maybe have a good bowel movement. which is kind cool because i need my regualarity.

I'd managed to let my annoyance with OK Go fester until tonight, with a lot of this thread bringing the heartless cynic in me bubbling to the surface. (Thanks, guys and gals. :-) )

Too many Weezer comparisons and references to their kitschy power pop coupled with reviewers name-dropping the likes of Rick Ocasek have me hating this band with a passion typically reserved for bubblegum and gangsta rap. They seem to be popular enough to implant THAT SONG into the heads of music whores who blindly sing their praises when the opportunity arises, which is far too often.

Everyone's focusing on their image as merry little popsters and the second coming of Weezer, but the significant difference is that Weezer has, you know, talent and actual musical skills. Plus, unlike OK Go, Weezer doesn't need to dilute their sound until it's a sonic wall of shit eminating through the speakers and into my brain, where it will become lodged until I hear something as bad, if not worse, like the new Puddle of Mudd single.

I never hated ProTools as much as I do while suffering through "Let Go," which sounds eerily like every other song on the radio, except worse.
