similiar album covers

Postby vitas » Mon Mar 06, 2006 8:48 pm

while looking through desmond dekker albums it struck me how similiar elliot smith's "xo" was to desmond dekker and the four aces' "intensified". though, possibly purely coincidental, it still makes me wonder if it had any influence on album art concepting.

like i said, not exactly the same, but similiar non the less. seen any other albums out there that could be influences, but not direct copies?

i like what i saw on the knockoffproject.com site. though, i'm more curious of finding covers that have elements that may have inspired selective interpretations, instead of outright copies.

the anchormen, andrew wk, and james brown covers on that site are sort of what i'm talking about. similiar, but not copies.

you'll find both varieties on that site, but it does tend toward the outright copy.

Case in point:

Like you were saying Vit, the idea is clearly there, even though the image is slightly different. I personally don't see why they wanted to draw any More obvious parallels between the two albums, but I guess they were afraid the average listener wouldn't pick up on the fact that it's a love letter to "Fredhead" without a visual clue as well.

Well, I found both albums in the "used" bin at my local neighborhood Megastore, but I only had $1.50 on me, so I made the obvious choice.

You know what would be easier? Would you mind just copying me the "American Century" album and bring it to me at my earliest convenience? That'll save me a $1 and some time.

Thanks!
