Elvis Costello comes to mind from his debut through Spike.

Didn't "Goodbye Cruel World" come out in there? I'm an avid Elvis fan but he deffinately had some non-solid albums in the '80s.

List out the names of the albums that were released in your timespan (or your "six in a row") and you'll often find the dud...

Oh, and Neil Young had 7 in a row:

1969 Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
1970 After the Gold Rush
1972 Harvest
1973 Time Fades Away [live]
1974 On the Beach
1975 Tonight's the Night
1975 Zuma

But you can't find a whole 10 years where he (or any band!) was great.

I'm suggesting that it's probably time we give up on our faves from the 90s (Beck, Wilco, who else?)... At least for a while. They might come back and surprise us after a decade or two or mediocrity...

Not quite ten years, unless you count Pablo Honey, which is a pretty bad record. I'm not that big a Bends fan but people with good taste seem to be, so it should count. If their next record is good, they'd make the list.

Flaming Lips are close too, from maybe Hit to Death in the Future Head through Soft Bulletin, but it's not quite 10 years. Their last two records are almost total duds though. One thing about both bands--they got better each time out during that period.

Yoshimi has its moments but nothing really stays with me from that record. And I miss their guitars. I listened to Clouds Taste Metallic last night; what an unsung record. It holds up great, and has those wonderful guitars!

Plus their whole fucking half-assed outerspace shtick grates on me.

I'd say Mr. Coyne goes all ass in his space shtick. His backyard is proof enough.

Hmm...how long did Boston coast off their first two albums? Did they ever release a third?
