I'll admit up front that I'm using you guys to help me with my homework... Hope you don't mind.

As some of you know, I do operations analysis for a major media retailer (also known as Borders) and I've been charged with evaluating music download interfaces and systems. When the day comes (in some far-off and heady age of mass broadband and a workable Digital Rights Management system) that the Borders Stores website implements free music downloads, we want to build the best mechanism possible for the job.

That said, I think that anyone inclined to visit this site probably has one or two favorite places on the web to score free music - what are they? I'll be looking at search functionality, result relevance, database content, plain user-friendly-ness, et cetera.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

And by the way, in case you didn't know, Liquid Audio sucks ass. Big time. As does any file format that requires a proprietary player.

Kazaa and Morpheus/Musiccity use the same technology. There's a hack that allows you to search for mp3s with greater than 128 kbps quality too. Check their boards.

I use Audiogalaxy, but I sure as hell don't like it. It's slow and more limited in scope than Napster was. Oh how I miss Napster. Though I probably shouldn't be too hard on Audiogalaxy, as it's the source of half the tracks on GloNo radio.

I believe Kazaa uses the same technology musiccity does
