Songs About Space/Songs About Ghosts

Postby creepy » Tue Jun 02, 2009 5:53 pm

I have a weird need to put songs into groups and I've been wanting to do a couple of mix cds/playlists with songs about space, and ghosts. I need help from you fabulous bunch of music geeks to flesh these suckers out.

So far I've got:

Space-
Byrds - Hey Mr. Spaceman
GBV - Hey Hey Spaceman
Pixies - Space (I Believe In)
Man or Astroman? - Universe City
The Rezillos - Destination Venus
Tornadoes - Telstar
The Ventures - Journey to the Stars

Ghosts-
Roky Erickson - If You Have Ghosts
Rich Kids - Ghosts of Princes in Towers
Psychedelic Furs - Ghost in You
The Police - Spirits in the Material World

Ummm, that's all I can think of right now. (I just thought of doing a ghost one today.)

SPACE
Man Or Astroman - Evil Plans of Planet Spectra
Tipsy - Nude On The Moon
David Bowie - Starman
Queen - '39

GHOSTS
The Pogues - Turkish Song Of The Damned
The Replacements - Rock & Roll Ghost
Eels - Friendly Ghost
Nick Cave - Papa Won't Leave You Henry
Johnny Cash - Delia's Gone
Sugar - A Good Idea

Man, songs about ghosts are easy to find but space is harder. It's like space songs went out with glam-rock or something.

Or "Space Oddity", for that matter.

Howzabout "Interstellar Overdrive" or "Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun" by Pink Floyd?

Or "To Repel Ghosts" by Manic Street Preachers?

Lots of Pixies songs about space:

"Planet of Sound" (Mars vs. Earth)
"Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons" (Mars)
"Motorway to Roswell" (Martians)

Oh boy, looks like it's time for another Pixies fit.

Don't forget Velouria and The Happening. They're about aliens too. Pretty much all of Bossanova is.

Some good suggestions. I can't believe I didn't think of the Neutral Milk Hotel or Bowie. Some of those song I don't know, but I'll try to check 'em out. I'm thinking about putting together a couple of cd length playlists, zipping 'em, and putting them up for download by you GloNoids. Maybe that'll assuage the guilt I've felt for stiffing MF on a cd exchange years ago.

The Only Ones "Another Girl, Another Planet"
Peter Schilling "Major Tom"
Richard Strauss "Also sprach Zarathustra" (opening theme from 2001)
Consider breaking up tracks with themes from Doctor Who and X-Files, which were lovely atmospheric instrumental pieces.
