An ending fitting for a start. This was Peter Doherty’s last scheduled solo date in mainland U.K.this year (although there is still time for this to change).

For his previous gig at this venue in February, at the beginning of the Grace/Wastelands tour he brought a full band. Tonight it was a stripped down show with Peter, an acoustic guitar, and of course a bagful of songs. He was joined on stage by an artist who completed a painting, the occasional ballerina, and Dot Allison who sang backing on "Sheepskin Tearaway."

The gig featured a heady mixture of songs. As well as several from Grace/Wasteland, the set included a few Libertines songs that Peter rarely plays live including "Delaney," "Up The Bracket," and "Death On The Stairs."

Although this was an acoustic show there was no reverential silences or polite applause. The crowd who sang along from the outset were their normal raucous selves during the near two-hour set.

Five years ago I saw Peter play a gig to a crowd of around 150 at a pub called Stereo in Glasgow (he was joined onstage by Dot Allison then as well). That was a fun and spontaneous night - it was much the same tonight but with an extra 1700 people in the audience.

In December he will return with Babyshambles for his third sold out show at this venue in 2009.

For Peter these are the good old days...long may they continue.

Great shots, as always, David. Great to see Peter looking healthy.

Cool! So he's in pretty good shape these days? I hope so: I'm going to see the show in Paris next week.
