Neutral Milk Hotel alumni Jeff Mangum and Jullian Koster have performed “Engine” at the most recent dates on the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour.

The first time they pulled out this ten-year-old b-side was in Pittsburgh (video after the jump…), and in some ways it’s refreshing that the irreverent crowd didn’t shut the fuck up while Mangum played his first live Neutral Milk Hotel song since a one-off show in New Zealand in 2001 (flyer, setlist).

No confirmation on whether or not Mangum will make tonight’s show in Pontiac, Michigan. Or tomorrow night in Chicago. Glorious Noise will be at that one. With or without Mangum, of course, it’s guaranteed to be a fun show. And we can’t wait to see Major Organ and the Adding Machine.

Remaining dates:

Oct. 20: Pontiac, Mich. (The Pike Room at the Crofoot)

Oct. 21: Chicago (Bottom Lounge)

Oct. 22: Bloomington, Ind. (The Cinemat)

Oct. 23: Lexington, Ky. (The Red Mile Round Barn)

Previously: Jeff Mangum Sings with E6 All-Starr Band

MP3: Neutral Milk Hotel – “Engine” from Oh, Merge – a Merge Records 10 Year Anniversary Compilation.
