Ryan Adams Confessional

April 18, 2008

Classic. Ryan Adams makes it impossible to hate him, no matter how much you want to. Over on his latest blog project, he lists some FACTS ABOUT ME. There's a bunch of good ones, but my favorite is that he now admits that his album Gold "was over-long and maybe half good." That's what we've been saying about his albums for years!

More Facts About Ryan:

• I never dated Alanis Morrisette. But she is very nice.

• I never dated Winona Ryder, but she is my friend and I will always love her.

• I never KICKED OUT anyone from a concert. [He gives his side of the story. It's barely different from the version that he's refuting, ha ha.]

• I only used speedballs (snorted not shot) at the end of my drug use, which was parallel to my last romance.

• I have only dated 5 women in my life.

• I hate HATE country music. I always have. I “reference” it when I make music that sounds like that, the way a director would use water as a backdrop for a svcene with a shark in it. But I cannot stand country music one bit. unless the Grateful Dead are messin round with it. Then it is tolerable.

• I just want to make things. meaningful beautiful things before my time here is done and hopefully encourage people to express themselves, not to clutter the world with art, but so because I think people learn about themselves and find deeper meaning when they create things. It just happens.

Good old Ryan Adams. You just can't hate the guy.

i've actually found myself falling head over heels for him because of that blog. i never thought i'd actually find myself attracted to him.

I'm jealous of him now. Who wouldn't be? From what I can tell, he lives in NYC with enough cash on hand to paint, mess around with his shit (including BC Rich guitars) take pictures of himself and blog about dying his hair. The canopy bed and Kim Gordon prints are to die for.
May I ask how can he afford this lifestyle?

I dunno, the guy recognizes his faults, cops to 'em, and sez he hopes to continue. Sounds cool to me. Too bad the poor bastard is losing his hearing, but somehow Townshend and Beethoven were able to work past that one.

ryan adams has his story completely messed up on the ryman show. he's not being totally honest there. from the review in the local paper he was the one drunk pretty bad. ryan also forgets to mention that he emailed the paper and called the town a hick shit town and called the paper a hick shit paper. he wasn't holding anything back.

the reviewer of the show didn't bring it all up to draw attention or what not. he even mentioned that setting that incident aside he thought the show was bad. it was an honest review that ryan didn't like in typical ryan fashion. aside from that he seems to be more honest now.

Runaway Dorothy never goin back
One way on a one way track
I'm wearin' my spaghetti-o's t-shirt
Gettin' squirted with the hose and rollin' round in the dirt
Take a drink right from the hose
The Barenaked Ladies blows
Into the arms of America.

I'm listening the "Easy Tiger" right now and I must say, the "I hate country music" comment is absolute bullshit. He's not using aspects, or shades of country on some of these tracks. They're straight up country. Jacksonville City Nights is a country album. Ryan might hate what country music has become but he's deffinately a product of and continues to produce country music. Paint it any punk rock color you want (and your hair too), you're still suckling at Hank's teet like it or lump it.
