The Guardian vs. The Mountain Goats

February 15, 2008

The Guardian interviews John Darnielle:

"Well, first I studied hard drugs," he says. "Then at the end of that period of time I went to nursing school." Two or three years into his nursing career he read Wild Palms by William Faulkner, which he calls "the book that I read that made me think I ought to be in school". He enrolled in classes at his local community college, where his English tutor encouraged him to go to Pitzer, a liberal college in California.

It's one of the better recent interviews with Darnielle as he goes around talking to everybody to promote the new Mountain Goats album, Heretic Pride, out February 19, on 4AD.

Previously: New Mountain Goats: Sax Rohmer #1; Glorious Noise Interview with the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle (2003); and more.
