The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot got the scoop on the 2009 Lollapalooza headliners:
Depeche Mode, the Beastie Boys and a reunited Jane’s Addiction are expected to headline the fifth annual Lollapalooza Aug. 7-9 in Grant Park.
Though promoters would not confirm the information Friday, multiple sources inside the industry said the three headliners are a lock for the festival. Three more arena-level headliners are expected to be included when the complete lineup is announced next month.
Excited? Or were you hoping for something more...um...timely? I haven't seen Jane's Addiction since the first Lollapalooza in 1991. But then again, I'm old and crotchedly.

DM will be interesting, I'm excited to see the B-Boys, and couldn't care less about Jane's Addiction. I guess it'll give me pleasant flashbacks to K College, but what about the other 100,000 people there?
i'm down with it... all three are worth seeing. now round it out with some up-and-coming groups and you've got something going. i like the idea of a lineup that spans a few generations and can bring in a diverse crowd. then again, i'm an old fuck to, so i don't give a fuck what the kids think.
when lolla was going on and we were in college, i was making trips to the michigan state fair to have a chance to catch alex chilton and maybe hear him play a few big star songs mixed in with the box tops stuff they booked him for. i would balance going to see superchunk at a small venue to seeing aerosmith at a stadim. it didn't matter how old the dudes were playing the music, just as long as they played something i connected with.
remember seeing neil young touring with sonic youth? yeah, it's about the same thing. i don't remember anyone around me in college bitching about how old and out of touch neil young was.
these three acts have had a huge influence on all the bands that are out there, wether directly or indirectly. it'll be great to see them up there headlining the festival.
