The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its nominees for 2010, and before I even start getting indignant again this year, I'm just going to take a breath and let it slide. As my man Sab pointed out last year, "It's called the Rock and Roll Hall of FAME, not the I'm Punk Rocker Than You Hall of Obscurity."
KISS, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, the Hollies, LL Cool J and Jimmy Cliff are first-time nominees among a dozen finalists for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, according to a list released this morning by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. They join returning candidates ABBA, the Chantels, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Stooges and Donna Summer.
The five inductees will be announced in January, and the Induction Ceremony will take place March 15. Artists are eligible 25 years after their first single or album release. Please check out who's already in before you start bitching about who they left out.

I checked the link for Hall of Fame Members and the Momma and the Poppas are inductees.
Wonder who Poppa John shot up and f'd to get that accomplishment.

Hmmm...as much as I hate Kiss, they deserve induction; dunno if the Peppers or Donna Summer have enough merit to actually belong in the Hall; Genesis before Yes? Um, nope. The Hollies should've been in there ages ago; Stooges, too. ABBA? Uh...probably--not that I care either way; Nyro seems like an insider fave and will likely get in. Then again, Ms. Love hasn't gotten in yet, even after various tries, so...
And why the hell are Hall and Oates not on the ballot?! Again?
I promise not to be pissed this year when the Stooges don't get in again. Who am I kidding? I'll be pissed.
Who cares? The RRHOF has zero relevance, just like MTV and Rolling Stone and all the other corporate rock relics.
Anyone who gets all worked up over this dog and pony show might want to take a few steps back and recall a time when rock and roll (or punk or whatever) wasn't about awards and museum displays.
Get over it.
