Tool, Lou Reed, Killers added to Lollapalooza

March 24, 2009

The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot confirms that Tool, Lou Reed, the Killers, and the Decemberists are all expected to play Lollapalooza this summer in Chicago. Tool and the Killers apparently round out the previously reported headliners: Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode, Jane's Addiction, and Kings of Leon.

It's interesting to note that five of the six headliners have previously played Lollapalooza: Jane's Addiction (1991, 2003); Tool (1993); Beastie Boys (1994); the Killers (2005); and Kings of Leon (2007).

Strange tidbit:

Also confirmed for the festival is Lou Reed, who has been asked to play a late afternoon/early evening showcase slot that will likely be a greatest-hits set with a core band built around longtime bassist Fernando Saunders. Reed was reportedly impressed by the reception accorded a similarly revered veteran act, the Stooges, when they played a comparable slot at the festival two years ago.

Come on Lou, just get the Velvet Underground back together (again). Sure, it won't be the same since Sterling Morrison has died, but I bet Doug Yule knows all his parts. Make it happen!

MP3: Lou Reed - "Caroline Says, Pt. II" from Berlin: Live at St. Ann's Warehouse.

Previously: Lollapalooza Parties Like It's 1992.

I am excited to attend because we had such a good time last year but outside of the B-Boys, these headliners blow. Looks like I won't have to worry about staking out good spots on the main stages.

Update: DeRo adds Neko Case and Andrew Bird. Bird played Lolla in 2006.
