WTF is that? I lasted one minute, five seconds before I had to turn that shit off. Seriously. What the FUCK?

Wow, amazing when you are so shitty, you can make other boy bands look like musical geniuses.... the best part hits around the 1:55 minute mark

and what's up with the dancing pig?

Over on the LA Times music blog, August Brown answers my question (i.e., WTF?) quite convincingly:

The "Albucrazy"-based band has done for MySpace emo what some think Soulja Boy did for hip-hop: turn their career into a kind of macro-performance art that exists so far beyond the tropes of irony and sincerity that to ask "are they kidding?" is like trying to peel an onion to get to a perceived central core that, in the end, does not exist and renders all attempts to reassemble the pieces futile.

More:

What we have here are the hideous side effects of Internet-culture music poptimism: a world in which every trope of every genre, sub- or not, is so instantly accessible, consumable and repeatable that to "like" something is completely subsumed by the act of "acknowledging" something. As terrifying as "Freaxxx" is to listen to, its main function is not as song, but as a checklist of pop culture talking points -- there is autotune, there is screamo, there are awful house beats, there is casual misogyny and committed misogyny (dig the third verse where "Freaxxx" inexplicably turns into a Rollins Band song).

That is some solid rockcrit right there!

My first thought was, "Is that an SNL skit?"

It reminds me of some of the crapy pop music I've seen on the teevee in Europe. Like foreigners trying to latch onto American pop culture and copy it, except that they're not Americans, they don't understand R&B, Soul or even contemporary pop music.

This group of retards aren't foreigners.....are they?

Somebody's got to cross post this permalink somewhere where their fans will find it. This could be the next Andrew WK thread.

I just died a little inside.

To quote an anonymous internet commenter:

"Someone needs to take these guys and rub their face on a synthesizer and say "no" like they're scolding a puppy."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I love this song :) the dancing pig is what they call their "mascot", and its name is Bree Bree. they call it thier "crunk pig" which I found was kinda diffrent. They are american, not some European wanna-be's.

What the hell why does everyone diss Brokencyde
I love this song and their pig and I never knew the pigs name was Bree Bree is it really??

, Mar 3, 2009 3:46PM

, Mar 11, 2009 6:02PM

Point taken.

, Mar 11, 2009 6:13PM

Yeah, man! It's the revolution!

, Mar 12, 2009 3:22AM

Whatever. if you dont like this song dont listen to it. I for one love it.

, Mar 25, 2009 12:05PM

this is a catchy song but i seriously think it is trying to hpmotize kids into sex and drugs and beer

i am 15 years old and i still think that and i have to say that i agree with all you aldults that the lyrics are horrible and this song should not be allowed to play

, May 1, 2009 8:25AM

wtf, is wrong with you people
brokencyde are awesome, they 1 of my fav bands and im sic of people disin them because they like mainstream music that sounds the same and poppy
fuck u all
brokencyde will never die!!!

, May 28, 2009 2:24PM

u r all stupid heads with no brainz 4 heads and BC-13 is awesome! theyv paid there dues and worked really hard since 4ming 8 months ago and dont sound like other mainstream bands bcuz theyre hotter and more real and stuff U SUCK!!!! also their cover of jandek's "Point Judith" really gets to the emotional core of what it means to have isolationist tendencies in a society that puts so much value on social networking. As Kierkegaard put it, "What the age needs is not a genius—it has had geniuses enough, but a martyr, who in order to teach men to obey would himself be obedient unto death. What the age needs is awakening." Which is why BC-13 RULEZ and u guyz r gay! BROKENCYDE!!

, May 28, 2009 3:56PM

Simply brilliant.

, May 28, 2009 4:00PM

Brokencyde may be the first band that I've ever come across that I would seriously consider checking out live just so I could throw C batteries at them from the audience.
